thoughts on evangelism

What is your idea of evangelism? Do you think of passing out tracts or preaching on a street corner? Or do you think of washing someones car just to be nice? Maybe you might go out on the street and pray for people to be healed of physical ailments?

I'm not here to say some of those ways are right or wrong (though some may be more effective than others) but I do think that we should first be worshiping God in all we do before any of those things.

Take a look in Acts 2. When the Holy Spirit came, people started worshiping God. Th spirit prompted some to begin speaking in other languages. Crowds of people (who were Jewish) began to gather around wondering what was really going on. People from many different nations began to wonder how they were hearing their own language. Some thought maybe they were just drunk.

Then Peter steps up. He quotes a prophecy from Joel that the Jews would know of, telling of when God would pour out His spirit. He tells of Jesus and how he forgives sins and makes people new. Peter shared the gospel and about 3000 accepted Jesus as their Lord that day.

Their honest, heartfelt worship created an opportunity to witness to many and for many to be saved. You can wash someones window for free but if you are doing it for your own empowerment, you have no witness. You must do everything out of worship to God and your witness will flow out of that.
